An Emirati Goes to Miss Universe: The Story of Miriam Mohammed

by MiEF

A fashion design student became a national flag-bearer on October 3, 2025. Miriam Mohammed became the first Emirati to compete at Miss Universe. But for this beauty queen, it has never been about glamour, it is about purpose and impact.

From Economics to Fashion Design

Before she ever stepped on the runway, Miriam studied Economics at the University of Sydney. While there, she often attended fashion events, especially those that celebrated Arab culture. Over time, her love for blending heritage with modern design grew so strong that she decided to start over.

Today, she’s studying fashion design at ESMOD Dubai, focusing on sustainable fashion and social impact. Her projects include eco-friendly uniforms for volunteers and designs supporting women-led small businesses.

Her Social Impact as Miss Arab World UAE

Miriam began her modelling journey as a side passion during her university years in Sydney. Soon, she caught the attention of Hanan Nasr, founder of Miss Arab World.

Finding the right representative for the UAE wasn’t easy. Hanan wanted someone educated and aware of her country’s economy. And Miriam fit perfectly.

For her, fashion is not vanity; it’s visibility. She believes design can amplify women’s voices and drive change. Beyond modelling, Miriam supports multiple charity initiatives. From Ramadan Aman to The Giving Family Initiative and designs clothing lines that emphasize sustainability. She has also represented the UAE in international women’s business programs. Her vision is that the world needs to see that fashion and social responsibility can coexist beautifully.

 Family and Interests

One of the best things Miriam appreciates apart from her country is her childhood. She credits her mother as her greatest source of strength. As the youngest of two siblings, she dreams her mother would be in the crowd when she walks the Miss Universe stage in Thailand this November.

The competition will be held on November 21, 2025, in Pak Kret, where Miriam will stand among 129 contestants from around the world.

For Miriam Mohammed, being Miss Universe UAE is not a title, it’s a responsibility. Her devotion to empowering women, promoting sustainability, and expanding the Emirati presence on global stages makes her a powerful symbol of what modern beauty stands for: purpose, brilliance, and impact.
